jig.jp to buy dating app maker Bachelor Date for ¥3.48 billion (about $21.9 million)

The Tokyo dating app, which uses AI to set users up on dates instead of having them swipe, was already profitable, with ¥265 million in operating profit last fiscal year.

jig.jp, the Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed company behind the live-streaming service Fuwacchi, said on April 20, 2026 that it would acquire all shares of Bachelor Date Inc., the operator of the dating app Bachelor Date, and make it a wholly owned subsidiary.

jig.jp will pay ¥3.48 billion (about $21.9 million) for the 50,000 shares. With an estimated ¥3 million in advisory and other costs, the total comes to about ¥3.483 billion. jig.jp held no shares before the deal, and the share transfer was scheduled for May 11, 2026.

The figures come from jig.jp's timely disclosure to the Tokyo Stock Exchange, where it trades under the code 5244, as summarised by Nihon M&A Center. The 50,000 shares carry 50,000 voting rights, so jig.jp will move from no stake to full control in a single step.

The buyer said it plans to apply its own know-how to expand Bachelor Date's business and to gain a new source of revenue for the group.

What Bachelor Date built

Bachelor Date is a screened matching service for people looking for casual dates or a marriage partner. Instead of browsing profiles, liking and swiping, users are matched by an AI system that picks people it expects them to like, according to the app's App Store listing.

The app arranges one date a week, up to four a month. Screening happens in two stages: members first pass identity verification, then need good ratings from the people they meet to be fully approved. The listing says about 50,000 people go on dates through the app each month and that it has passed 2 million dates in total. Membership costs ¥2,900 (about $18) per week, with a seven-day free trial.

Bachelor Date Inc. is based in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The startup database INITIAL lists the company as founded in July 2021 and its representative as Yuka Soyama.

A profitable target

Unlike many startups bought at this stage, Bachelor Date was making money. In the fiscal year to June 2025 it reported revenue of ¥1.39 billion (about $8.7 million), operating profit of ¥265 million (about $1.7 million) and net assets of ¥412 million (about $2.6 million), according to the disclosure summarised by M&A Online.

On those figures, jig.jp is paying about 2.5 times annual revenue and about 13 times operating profit for the business.

Operating profit of ¥265 million on ¥1.39 billion of revenue works out to an operating margin of about 19%. Against net assets of ¥412 million, the purchase price is more than eight times the company's book value.

M&A Online's deal database lists Yuki Mochizuki as the seller. The company's funding history and outside investors, if any, have not been reported, and its headcount was not disclosed.

Why jig.jp is buying

jig.jp's main business is Fuwacchi, its live-streaming service. Buying Bachelor Date gives it a second consumer app, one that earns money from paid memberships, which jig.jp described as a new revenue base.

The deal continues a run of acquisitions. In November 2024 jig.jp bought Bright Table, which runs a restaurant reservation agency service, and in March 2025 it acquired the developer of a virtual music live-streaming app, according to M&A Online.

How the app differs

Bachelor Date sets itself apart from swipe-based matching apps by limiting choice: users do not search at all, and the app sets up the date. Its App Store listing carried an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 from more than 4,300 ratings.

jig.jp did not say whether Bachelor Date's management would stay on after the share transfer or how it would combine the dating app with Fuwacchi.
