Monetate, which sells software for personalizing and testing websites and apps, said on July 30, 2026, that it had acquired Simon AI, a customer data platform that uses AI agents to plan and run marketing campaigns. The companies did not disclose the price.
Simon AI, known as Simon Data until it renamed itself, will operate as a Monetate company. Monetate chief executive Steve Maher will lead both businesses, while Simon AI co-founder and chief executive Jason Davis will keep running Simon AI and work closely with Maher.
The two products will stay separate, with ready-made integrations available from the start so shared customers can use them together. Monetate said the deal came with what it called a significant injection of growth capital, without naming an amount, and that it would spend more on product development and on its Concierge and strategic services teams for both platforms.
What Simon AI built
Simon AI builds a single profile of each customer from online and offline sources, kept inside a brand's own data warehouse rather than copied into a separate system. Marketers can use that data to send messages through more than 100 channels with a built-in journey builder, and can ask an AI interface in plain language to plan campaigns based on live customer data and outside signals such as inventory, price changes, news and local weather.
The platform connects directly to Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and other cloud data platforms without copying data. Simon AI says its customers include large fashion retailers, live-entertainment and ticketing marketplaces, travel and hospitality groups, financial institutions and subscription brands, though it did not name them. It cited a 70% performance gain at one live-entertainment marketplace that used its agents to match fans with events.
The company has been named a Gartner Cool Vendor in multichannel marketing and a Snowflake partner of the year, according to the announcement.
“Steve and I have been working on this for months, and the more time we spent together, the more obvious it became that our companies were building two halves of the same platform.”
Why Monetate is buying
Monetate's products cover the moment a shopper is on a website or in an app: Symphony for product and content recommendations and one-to-one personalization, Maestro for experiments, Forte for delivering changes without page flicker in secure and regulated settings, and Glasshouse for governing AI agents. All run on its MONET AI engine. The company says it serves hundreds of brands in retail, sporting goods, luxury, financial services, healthcare, travel and the public sector.
Maher said brands have long been promised a single view of each customer and real-time relevance across channels but have ended up with long integration projects instead. Combined, he said, a Symphony recommendation could draw on a customer's identity resolved in the data warehouse, their current intent and even the local weather, while activity in one channel could shape the next email, ad or journey. He said Monetate would triple its investment across both platforms.
Davis said the two companies had been working on the deal for months and had concluded they were building two halves of the same product, with Simon AI handling customer data and journeys and Monetate handling the on-site experience.
The founders and the funding
Simon AI's About page names Jason Davis, its chief executive, and Matt Walker, its chief technology officer, as co-founders; they met while studying for PhDs in machine learning. AlleyWatch listed Frank Harris and Joshua Neckes as further co-founders and dated the company to 2015.
The company raised a $30 million Series C in August 2019 led by Polaris Partners, with .406 Ventures and F-Prime Capital taking part, according to law firm Gunderson Dettmer. In August 2023 it raised a $54 million Series D from investors including Polaris Partners, F-Prime Capital, .406 Ventures and Macquarie Capital, bringing its reported equity funding to $115.8 million, AlleyWatch reported. The announcement of the sale was published on .406 Ventures' website.
Simon AI's headcount was not reported.
