Times Network, the media group behind the business news channel ET NOW, acquired OpiGo, an Indian platform that connects retail investors with stock ideas from registered analysts. The deal was reported on 4 August 2026.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, and neither company gave a price or said whether it was paid in cash or shares.
OpiGo will become a central part of ET NOW Pro, a new premium subscription for retail investors that Times Network launched alongside the acquisition. The deal coincided with ET NOW's 17th anniversary.
What OpiGo built
Devansh Mehta founded OpiGo in 2022. The platform started with what it called score-linked social investing, in which investors shared views on stocks and were rated on their calls, at a time when many retail investors relied on anonymous groups and unverified tip channels.
It later became a marketplace that connects investors with experts and research providers registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). OpiGo offers recommendations for short-term trades, long-term investments and specific sectors, along with community opinions on individual stocks and breakdowns of metrics such as price-to-earnings, price-to-book, return on equity, revenue and profit.
Inc42 described the product as a way for retail investors to understand the reasoning behind an investment rather than just following tips. Recommendations on the platform come from SEBI-registered experts, and community discussion sits alongside the research.
The app reached nearly one lakh, or about 100,000, downloads, according to the announcement.
“When we started OpiGo, our vision was simple: make retail investing more transparent, intelligent and accountable. Joining forces with ET NOW will scale this vision significantly and create a trusted destination where investors can seamlessly access quality content, expert research and investing tools within one integrated ecosystem.”
Why Times Network is buying
The acquisition moves ET NOW beyond television and news into paid services for investors. ET NOW Pro will offer live trade ideas and recommendations from SEBI-registered research analysts, curated investor communities, market insights, premium financial content and access to ET NOW's pay TV channel.
N Subramanian, executive director and group chief executive of The Times Group, said millions of new investors are entering India's capital markets and looking for reliable information and expert guidance. He said the next phase of growth would come from platforms that combine credible financial content with technology and community, and that OpiGo and ET NOW Pro were a step towards a full investor ecosystem.
The move builds on ETNow.in, the digital business news site ET NOW launched in 2023, which the company says ranks among India's top business news platforms on Comscore.
The founder and the funding
OpiGo was a small startup. It raised a pre-seed round of ₹1.4 crore (about $168,000) in 2024 from angel investors Shubham Satyarth and Manish Choksi, according to Inc42. No other funding has been reported.
Mehta said OpiGo's aim from the start was to make retail investing more transparent, intelligent and accountable, and that joining ET NOW would let the vision reach far more people. The companies did not say what role he will take inside ET NOW Pro, or how many OpiGo staff will join.
Media groups move into investor services
Subramanian framed the deal around the number of first-time investors coming into India's markets and their need for trusted guidance. Times Network is betting that a news brand known for markets coverage can also sell advisory and community features to the same audience, under one paid subscription.
For OpiGo, the deal gives a small, angel-funded platform the distribution of a national business news channel and its digital site. Times Network described the combined offer as the next stage in ET NOW's change from a business news broadcaster into a financial intelligence and investor engagement platform, with OpiGo's marketplace sitting next to ET NOW's journalism, research and investing tools.
Inc42 said that after the merger ET NOW Pro would bring together live trade ideas, analyst recommendations, investor communities, premium content, market insights and the pay TV channel in a single product. Pricing for the subscription was not part of the announcement.
