Apprentice.io, which makes manufacturing execution software for drug makers, acquired Ganymede, a cloud platform that connects laboratory instruments and automates the capture of scientific data. Pulse 2.0 reported the deal on 22 January 2026. Terms were not disclosed.
The Ganymede team, led by co-founders Nathan Clark and Benson Lee, is joining Apprentice. Ganymede's "Lab-as-Code" technology will become a core part of Apprentice's platform, and Apprentice said it will keep selling Ganymede's products for R&D and diagnostics data.
Ganymede was founded in 2022 and had raised more than $15.6 million, including a $12.75 million Series A led by Caffeinated Capital.
What Ganymede built
Laboratories run many instruments and software systems that store data in different formats. Ganymede's platform lets scientists, bioinformaticians and IT staff write integrations in code, in a low-code cloud development environment, that connect directly to lab instruments and scientific software such as laboratory information management systems. The data is collected into a single, standardised data layer that can be used for analysis or machine learning.
Ganymede said its platform fitted into a client's existing technology and ran natively on the AWS, Google Cloud and Azure clouds. In 2022, Clark argued that scientific software, especially at biotech companies, was 10 to 20 years behind other industries, and that Ganymede made lab and manufacturing data visible to managers and ready for machine learning or digital twins.
When it raised its Series A in December 2022, Ganymede said it had passed $1 million in revenue commitments from customers ranging from early-stage biotechs to large pharmaceutical companies. It also offered services to build custom integrations for clients. The company was built for wet-lab life sciences and manufacturing sites.
“Ganymede makes R&D connectivity programmable, so tech transfer doesn’t require starting over. Joining Apprentice extends that into manufacturing execution, reducing friction at the handoff and delivering end-to-end visibility from development to commercial scale.”
Why Apprentice is buying
Apprentice's main product runs production in life sciences manufacturing. The company described it as a next-generation manufacturing execution system (MES). Its customers have included Catalent, Synthego and Bristol Myers Squibb, according to a 2022 company description.
Buying Ganymede takes Apprentice from the factory into the research lab. The company said the deal creates a continuous record linking instrument data, process execution and manufacturing data in real time. It said this should reduce the data silos that slow down the transfer of a process from R&D to commercial production, a step known as tech transfer.
Apprentice said Ganymede would add analytics, real-time process insights and deeper connections to equipment and instruments to its manufacturing products. CEO and co-founder Angelo Stracquatanio said the result would be an AI-native platform covering both R&D and manufacturing.
A partnership that became an acquisition
The two companies had worked together for years. In Ganymede's December 2022 funding announcement, Stracquatanio was quoted as the CEO of one of Ganymede's earliest partners, saying its Lab-as-Code integrations had been very useful to Apprentice. CB Insights lists Apprentice among Ganymede's investors.
Benson Lee said Ganymede made R&D connectivity programmable, so that tech transfer did not require starting again, and that joining Apprentice would extend this into manufacturing execution. Nathan Clark said Apprentice was the best place for Ganymede to scale up its data and AI capabilities.
The founders and the funding
Ganymede raised a $2.9 million seed round in 2022 and the $12.75 million Series A, led by Caffeinated Capital, in December of the same year. Varun Gupta of Caffeinated Capital joined its board. CB Insights lists BoxGroup, SciFi VC and Hawktail among its other investors and puts its total funding at $15.65 million.
The company was based in Palo Alto, California. Its founding team had backgrounds in machine learning, financial services, life sciences, automation and robotics, consumer technology and biomedical research, according to its 2022 announcement, which also named Alan Chramiec as founding scientist. Apprentice said the Ganymede team brings experience in data infrastructure, life sciences and machine learning. It did not say how many people are joining.
